"Home" in Lake Whitney State Park

After New Orleans, we stopped at three different Texas State Parks on our way to Lake Whitney.

Village Creek State Park a few miles north of Beaumont, TX.  We took the day to do laundry in town and found a great lunch in Beaumont, of cajun style shrimp, corn, and okra.

Two nights at Huntsville State Park near Huntsville, TX, a very large park with a large lake and lots of hiking opportunities.  We enjoyed this park, although very busy, a nice family camp.

On the beach at Huntsville, SP

Ft. Parker State Park, Mexia, TX.  Small, but very nice park.  I wish we had planned a little more time to check out the area.  Fort Parker was a private family fort constructed by the Parker family for their personal protection from indian raids.  I just now realized that a 'fort' could be private, not only military. This is a Quiet park and a good getaway from big city and hustle bustle.  We were only here one night but were excited about getting over to Lake Whitney.

We  are now set up at our 'home' in Lake Whitney State park, Whitney, Texas, where we'll spend May & June as Park Camp Hosts.  This is our first venture for this type of volunteer work, but discussed it with other hosts while we travelled last summer and we look forward to this new experience!

Arrived today about 1:30 and were directed to this wonderful, private site for the camp host, overlooking beautiful Lake Whitney.  Our site is surrounded by trees and across the road form one of the regular campground loops.  We love it!  While setting up we were greeted by the Park Superintendant Chris Bishop, who will stop by Saturday afternoon to begin our orientation of duties which we'll begin Monday or Tuesday.   Once we get more settled, we'll post more pics of this beautiful Park and let you know how it's going.

In the meantime, call, e-mail - stay in touch; we love it!
