Chief Joseph Hwy and the Bear Tooth Pass - July 15, 2014

Every Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday are our days off from Hosting at Buffalo Bill State Park so we venture out some of those days.  This is a view on our drive on the Chief Joseph Highway from Cody.  Our drive today was just under 200 miles on a loop that took us into Montana where some of the best scenery in the West was seen.  We thought the views today were better than what we saw in Yellowstone.

These iron plates/art depict the Nez Perce Indians crossing the Bear Tooth mountain pass where they successfully avoided General Howards troops who were after them.  Score one for the Nez Perce.

Some of the winding mountain roads shown on our GPS.

50 Miles North of Chief Joseph Hwy is the Bear Tooth Pass in Montanna.  The pass is just under 11,000 ft. and here in mid July, still snow on the ground and today, 46 degrees and rainy.  We drove thru a hail storm which lasted just a couple minutes, but slowed us down until we were through.

I've said it before, but we just can't get enough of scenes like this in the mountains of our great Western USA States.  This view here in Southwest Montana on the Beartooth Hwy.
