This 'N' That

Friday night,  June 15 we drove to Lillian, TX where the First baptist Church of Lillian hosted a Bluegrass show.  They had about 150 audience and the show was pretty good. One of the people we met told about the Bluegrass jam the next day in Glen Rose, so Saturday we drove up and spent the after noon jammin' in the Glen Rose City park.

Jammin - Glen Rose, TX

We drove down to Waco again Wednesday, June 20 to the Texas Ranger Museum.  A great history of the deservedly proud Texas Rangers.

There were dozens of cool pistols used by the Rangers

What we did today

A couple weeks ago we drove to Crawford, TX looking for the George W. Bush Ranch.  Didn't find it but felt we were close and decided to try again today.  We found some GPS co-ordinates for the ranch on the internet so I plugged 'em in and off we went.  All we got was a closed road which we assume led to the Bush home on Prairie Chapel Rd. and Rainey Rd; at least that's according to the co-ordinates 97.32'51" Longitude 31.34'49" Lattitude.

This is about as close as we got - The right turn at the end of this road is Rainey Rd. which has a barrier saying road closed.
Getting there

This sums up our day whch turned out to be a bust - Almost 7 hrs. engine time - 232.1 miles driving around Waco and the Texas countryside.
Most exciting part = 18.2 MPG. Pretty good for this

What are we doing?

Lake Whitney State park held its Saturday morning kids fishing tournament, this makes 21 years for this day.  Kids 12 and under sign in and are provided with tackle - poles, bait.  They fish for one hour while we and other host volunteers pass out the bait and measure the fish.  At noon, the kid with the highest total length for all fish, wins in their age category.  Age brackets were 6-8, 9-10, and 11-12.
No-one caught a fish, but every kid was presented a red ribbon for participating.

23 kids entered this year - past years had as high as 65

The local grocer, Brookstones, served hotdogs and soda for all involved

Spent a couple hours in Waxahachie on Sunday.  Our original intent was to take part in their annual tour of old homes, but we decided to pass on that. We did drive by a couple and they were gorgeous old homes - maybe we should have, but we went to the park instead to see what the vendors were hawking.

June checking out some jewelry.

Lunch at the "Two Amigos" mexican restaurant. This is one of the Amigos.

We spotted this UFO on our way back to the lake.

Earlier in the week this grass snake was tempting fate trying to cross the road in the campground.
Our visit through Crawford, TX on May 27th was un-eventful.  George Bush wasn't home that day, so we're gonna go back next week and drop in for a visit.  We'll let you know how it turns out.
